On September 26, 2018, on the sidelines of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly held in New York in the USA, the #UNHLMTB took place. An important meeting bringing together all the key global actors involved in the fight to @EndTB, in the presence of the Heads of State and Government of 193 countries.

The overall objective of this meeting is to call for urgent measures at the highest political level to achieve global goals of TB control, in order to mobilize resources to help those affected by the disease around the world”.

FIS was very well represented at its meeting by its Executive Director Bertrand KAMPOER (@KampoerB) whose commitment in ending TB is recognized both in Cameroon and abroad. FIS is particularly supported in its ambition by @stoptb, the leading organization fighting against TB all over the world. During side event, the Executive Director of FIS notably exposed on : the challenges related to Human Rights in the TB response in French-speaking Africa.

It should be definitively noted that, World Leaders endorsed the UN Political Declaration on TB with the most ambitious TB commitments made to date, agreeing to diagnose and successfully treat 40 million people with TB by end of 2022 and to provide 30 million people with preventive treatment by 2022 to protect them from developing TB (stop TB website). Member states also agreed to nearly double global levels of TB funding to reach the target of USD13 billion per year by 2022 and to reach $2 billion in R&D funding. The Political Declaration was met with strong acclaim from the TB community, and included the majority of the key asks and targets launched by the Stop TB Partnership and key TB stakeholders and communities back in April.
